Botoka Pocket Mirror on Etsy's Front Page!

Last night, as I was deep in my slumber, an adorable robot themed treasury featuring my Botoka Say Cheese Pocket Mirror made it's way to the front page of Etsy.com. It was a lovely surprise to wake up to so many new Etsy hearts! Thanks claudiamarie for making a great little collection of robot treasures. The treasury is now expired since they only last 2-3 days but thanks to craftcult.com, a website that is a giant Etsy database, I found the Robot Love treasury, enjoy!

Yochiensei - A New Mini Original Painting

New in the Botodesigns shop this week is a mini painting, measuring about 4x4 inches, inspired by the ridiculously cute Yochiensei (Japanese Kindergarten Students). They were the highlight of my day each morning in Japan, when I would ride my bike to work and see them in their snappy little uniforms, holding hands and crossing the street together on their way to school.

Violet! You're turning violet, Violet!

I've recently developed an obsession with purple. Hence my most recent shoe purchases which include purple canvas tennis shoes by Rubber Duck and purple rain boots by Chooka.

Rubber Duck - Women's Canvas Single Tennis Shoes (Dhalia)

Chooka - Women's Signature Solid Rain boot (Eggplant)

So it should come as no surprise that when an Etsy treasury opened up today I decided to curate a collection of some of etsy's best purples. You can view my new treasury, Violet, You're turning violet! here until Sunday evening. Enjoy!

Naoshi :: Thursday Finds

Naoshi is a Japanese artist whose Etsy shop I happened upon back in March 2009 when I was searching for colorful items to put in my Color Celebration Treasury. At the time her shop only had a few items in it but today it is filled to the brim with new prints, postcards and greeting cards featuring her playful sand art.

Naoshi creates surreal little worlds using a glittery and colorful sand called Sunae. Sunae is a medium typically found at playtime in Japanese elementary schools. The use of this sand in her art instantly adds an element of joy and nostalgia to her work. Here is a short video of her process:

Naoshi's work is available in her Etsy store: www.naoshi.etsy.com

Recap: Botodesigns @ Cabin Fever Indie Gift Show in Boston

Last weekend I participated in the 1st Cabin Fever Indie Gift Show, in Boston, organized by the SOWA Open Market team. The show was held in a newly renovated warehouse space in the thick of the Sowa Art and Media district. Aesthetically the space was great: wood floors and brick walls, plus the decorative hearts and streamers added a fun whimsical feel to the venue.

Unfortunately the buildings heating and electricity shut off every hour or so.

It did make for a lovely shadow art photo opportunity.

The staff was quick to remedy the situation each time while the buyers seemed to enjoy short and exciting moments of shopping in the dark.

Overall I had a great time meeting friendly vendors, lovely new customers, and adorable dogs.
