I've Been Tagged!

Thanks for tagging me poshdoodles!

First, here are the rules:

1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog - some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blog.
4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

My 7 facts:

1) I was raised on a kibbutz in Northern Israel until I was 7.

2) I love hole punchers.

3) I taught English in Japan as part of the JET Program. I lived in Nara, it was pretty and had lots of deer.

4) My favorite place in the world is the Yaeyama chain of Islands in Okinawa. I went there after reading about it in this New York Times article.

5) My favorite book is Life is Elsewhere by Milan Kundera, the translation with the dog cover, not the terrible new one.

6) I'm allergic to North Carolina. I found that out on a recent trip there, it had something to do with the large quantity of dogwood trees.

7) Growing up in Israel, something we always had stocked in the kitchen was bright orange anchovy paste in a tube. mmmm.

Weekend in North Carolina: A Wedding, A Photo Booth and A Robot Calculator

Recently my family and I traveled from Philadelphia down to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for the wedding of a relative. It was our first road trip in almost a decade. The drive was extremely long but also extremely entertaining, we stopped often to eat at rest areas,

run a lap around some trees,

take tourist photos

and watch hours upon hours of The Office.

When we arrived at our hotel we were greeted with a basket full of North Carolina yummies: Cheerwine soda, slim jims etc. Later that night we went to the fun rehearsal dinner which took place in a huge eclectically designed lounge called G-Loft in Durham.

The day of the wedding we explored Chapel Hill,

sampled it's many gourmet delights which included cupcakes, Cluck-U fried chicken and I also introduced my family to Bubble Tea.

We strolled on UNC's campus and found a great poster for the Presidential Debate, which my brothers proceeded to reenact. The part of Barack "the Hope" Obama was played by Gil and Shai was John "Maverick" McCain. The Hope ended winning the match. Ding!

We also stopped by the UNC Morehead Planetarium and Science Center Gift Shop where I found the calculator of my dreams... Robot Calculator!

At night we attended our relative's wedding and had a blast. Great food, beautiful ceremony and best of all a photo booth!!

Planto Goes Green(er)

Here is a glimpse at my latest project. I am working on some organic onesies for this weekend's CRAFTADELPHIA! Philly Etsy's monthly craft sale. This month's event is part of Design Philadelphia 2008 a week long series of exciting events at boutiques, galleries, design studios, cultural institutions, universities, warehouses and city streets. The organization's theme this year is Down to Earth: Evolving Design in the 21st Century so the Philly Etsy team will be focusing on green and sustainable design.

Along with these adorable Blushing Planto onesies, I will be selling paintings on recycled Japanese postcards, paintings on recycled PVC scraps and my organic cordial robots tshirts.

CRAFTADELPHIA! Mew Gallery. 906 Christian St. Philadelphia. Saturday, October 18. 11am - 4pm. www.designphiladelphia.org

Hope to see you all there!

Phillies Phanatics

Last night as Sam and I were getting ready for bed we heard a loud POP! and screams outside of our apartment. We looked at each other and said "the Phillies must have won the pennant." We might have been some of the few Philadelphians not watching the game. Don't get me wrong, I love to play sports but watching them has never been my thing, well except for the summer Olympics. Anyway, we decided that since this hasn't happened since we were in middle school, that we should brush the dust off of our Phillies caps and head out to celebrate with the rest of Philadelphia. The following pictures show the celebrations that we encountered on our street corner.

The screams we had heard were coming from the bar next to our house. Everyone had run outside to celebrate.

Several fans had run out to the middle of Market Street to give high fives to on coming traffic, pop champagne bottles and pour them on each other.

A short lived chant was started as well.

Some fans also stood in front of SEPTA buses begging them to honk their horn.

Then the cops came. The end.

Go Phillies!
